SIKI IM SS 2011 - INSOLATION / INTEGRATION

"Nationality should be stripped from anyone of foreign origin
who deliberately endangers the life of a police officer,
a soldier or a gendarme, or anyone else holding
public office. We are suffering the
consequences of 50 years of insufficiently
regulated immigration which has led to a failure of
integration. [...] Nationality is earned and you have to be
worthy of it.

Those were the first words you see when entering the garage for the Siki Im SS 2011 presentation. Words by Nicolas Sarkozy, Grenoble, July 30, 2010

For The Love Of Fashion

New York fashion week began yesterday and all the madness that follows it. A procedure that many don't get to see and the ones who do, do it for The Love Of Fashion.

R .J. Cutler, better known as the director of The September Issue, documented designers David & Marcus from Rag & Bone 3 days leading up to their AW2010 shows. The documentary that premiered showed all the behind-the-scenes process.

Even though it was a short-film it had the quality for more and frankly left us wanting more...

Images from that afternoon.
Seemed like yesterday.

Capsule New York - Spring 2011 Previews

On tuesday morning, Seventh Man stopped by the Capsule Show in New York! Catching up with all the designers was great, but this season all the items speak by themselves. Here are some previews of our favorites!

The patterns but especially the fabrics make the collection at Timo Weiland.
Below, designer-partner Alan Eckstein models one of his favorites.
Which is almost a tie-dye yet restrained enough to be casual.

And, this backpack is perfect for spring.

Swear continues to create new shapes each season.

A lightweight matt leather Spurr cardigan-top.

What joy to get a preview at Bstore for Liberty Of London.
The prints incorporated with the classic tee
and button down.

Still creating the coolest tees around, and this one's a must.

A Henrik Vibskov backpack!

(capsule) isn't just about clothing. And we're more than the words trade and show imply.
We're a group of comrades and likeminded creators, gathering each season to share the
fruits of our labor. Style is our medium; the sum of our parts (designers, retailers, editors,
admirers, bloggers, stylists, fans, writers, peacocks, art directors, and hangers on) is
simply amazing. Season after season, the results of our whole are never like always
at all, at all.

Thank you Designers, Capsule.
Can't wait to see all these in action during NY fashion week!

As if Joey Roth's much coveted, ceramic speakers can't get more interesting, he creates "Sounds Like". An exhibition showing the interpretation of Joey's friends, (Nine designers, Five musicians) during ICFF in New York. And, if the designs shown are any indication of the inspiration the speakers bring, 7thMan is looking forward to September, when 'Sounds Like' will be moving to L.A. Bringing at least two new interpretations!

Tweed Run 2010

One of the daily pleasures in life, is that morning and evening's moments when you feel the wind blowing your hair, and everything seems to be right with the world. And, if you're anything like the 7thMan, clothing organization is top priority.

United by the love of old English attire and cycling, the Tweed Run which was organized last month in London, attracted quite the turnout. Judging from the images one can mistake the decade, yet there is no denying the love for early 20th century British cycling outfits with matching vintage bikes.

The inaugural Tweed Run took place last year in London. Borrowing the name from the emblematic woolen fabric coming out of Scotland, this enjoyable event pays homage to fashion, cycling and of course the classic English spirit of the early 20th century.400 participants took part in the 12 mile excursion around the city which began at the Rootstein Hopkins Parade Grounds at the Chelsea College of Art & Design. Going the whole nine yards, a tea break was even scheduled at Kensington Gardens where riders got to enjoy some classical tunes from three-piece strong orchestra. Proving all to be a much Success!

Americans fret not, the Tween Run will be coming to Toronto and New York this coming Fall!!

Gant Rugger on Bleecker Street

This past week, Gant Rugger opened its first retail shop on Bleecker Street, New York. Rugger, which is the younger hipper brother to Swedish label Gant choose the perfect location, now downtowners will not have to travel too far.

Recently, Gant has gotten much attention, greatly due to Michael Bastian's collection. But, Rugger will surely make its own buzz bringing ivy-vintage inspired wear. The label's prices-"shirts retail for $125, knit polos for $75, sweaters for $125, pants for $125-$175, shorts $90-$125, and jackets for $225-$495." says WWD.

Bleecker Street is quickly becoming this seasons men's destination for shopping. Two weeks ago, Freemans Sporting Club debuted its WestVillage location, the week before that, news broke out the new Marc Jacobs shop will be replacing Biography Bookshop. And, pretty soon, A.P.C., the home of all that is sweet and French and denim, will be joining the retail mix. Making Bleecker the hottest street!

Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child

Tamra Davis met Jean-Michel Basquiat when he was only 21 years old, and she says he "definitely looked different." It was not far to long before the both started to bond over filmmaking, going out to movies and making there own reviews. Davis at that time was just a gallery assistant and was attending film school and pretty soon started filming him, and then Jean-Michel asked her if she could make a film about him.

Throughout the mid-80's Tamra filmed the artist in the studio painting, she recalls "Every time I was with him-and anybody will tell you this-he was always was working. He would be drawing at the restaurant; he would be painting."

Then in 1988 news broke out that Jean-Michel Basquiat passed away. And, Tamra Davis feeling bad and in mourning felt uncomfortable to do anything with the footage, and put it away and forgot about it. But in 2005, with the help of friends she returned to the 80's footage to make a 20 minute tribute. When the late artists friends and fans saw it they all flipped out! So Davis developed the short into a feature-length documentary with Arthouse Films, Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child.

The film just had its New York premiere at Moma during the Tribeca Film Festival. Injecting passion for the late artists legendary charisma. Which was propelled into culture during the late 70's, making everyone wanting a piece of him.

To see a trailer of the documentary visit this link.

Jean-Michel Basquiat was a Cult-Figure, inspiring us then and now.

A Closer Look- James Long AW10

This past week, 7thMan visited the LONDON show ROOMS in New York!! The British Fashion Council's international design initiative to bring London's leading emerging fashion talents across the pond, to increase their presence and develop their businesses internationally.

One who came along for the ride was of course James Long, a designer who brought innovation in every piece. Nothing but special to get a closer look, to see all the details or even better to have on! The knits were a big hit from the beginning, cozy and edgy. A print that made a statement, and jackets that carried rabbit-hair to velvet. Fantastic gloves one did not notice before, along with other accessories that made the collection complete.

Images speak for themselves.

A Closer Look-Tim Soar AW 10

A collection that truly embodies "Simplicity at its best," as we both agreed. Tim Soar explained that his focus was on the details, and how he could make them traditional.

7thMan says he has succeeded in his mission for the coming fall. With a motorcycle jacket made of cord, cropped tops with leather trims, that can be pared with classic trousers. Soar brought the victorian silhouette back that can be seen through the blazers, with slimmer sides and darts exposed for quality. A camel over-coat stood out simple, but perfect for the trend of the year...

London in New York - Any Old Iron Opening

New York just got a little more exciting with the opening of Any Old Iron. The first retail store of its kind to hit lower Manhattan will specialize in selling rare and UK-specific menswear. Labels such as Sir Tom Baker's rock & roll suiting, Bolongaro Trevor's mod inspired menswear, and Child of the Jago from the collaborative designers Branzley and Joe Corre (son of Vivienne Westwood) Red Mutha and Electronic Poet, which the majority are exclusive to Any Old Iron. The shop will also sell contemporary labels as Fred Perry, Raf Simons x Fred Perry, Unconditional, London Undercover and S***R shoes.

Any Old Iron is the brainchild of designer/stylist, Andrew Clancey and arts-entrepreneur, Christopher Melton. The shop’s name is rooted in the olden cry of a scrap man collecting metal with his horse and cart, and also hearkens to Clancey’s family scrap metal business which was founded in 1872. “Any Old Iron” is also an Old English music hall song which references a young man’s sartorial dandyism – a quality that is distinctly English and ever-present in the shop’s design and the legion of British designers featured.

In addition to exclusive collections, rare and sought-after antiques will also be for sale.
Fitting perfectly into Lower East Side. (LES)
