Uniqlo and Jil Sander Collaboration Hits The Shelves!

The wait is over. Thursday, October 14th, heralds the A/W arrival of one of the most interesting designer/high street collaborations to happen this year. Jil Sanders collection for Uniqlo is simply named J+ and simple describes it perfectly. The collection consists of well-tailored jackets in many styles and materials. The wool flannel chesterfield coat is my personal favourite, elegant with an everyday wearability it is sure to become an instant staple for any Uniqlo man.

Each of the J+ jackets has an androgynous quality and the 3 way wool coat with premium down lining is just as suited for men as it is for women. Materials used in the collection include the finest wools, down, satin, flannel and Egyptian cotton in the case of the beautifully-cut white shirt. Attention to detail really makes this collection stand out from other designer collaborations. The shape and silhouette is the talking point of J+. Jackets vary from funnel-necked, military-style, tuxedo to the very functional casual reversible jacket. The A/W catwalk had a special emphasis on coats and outerwear so Jil Sander has her finger firmly on the fashion pulse, providing much-lusted after designer cuts for a fraction of the price. Last seasons collection was an unparalleled success. Lightweight Summer jackets teamed with luxurious basics like the simple shirt; in various shades of blue, soft cashmere sweaters and thick leather belts, provide the perfect finish to any J+ outfit.

Sander comments on the collection saying "I just want to make truly great clothes". Mission accomplished.

Words Ann McLaughlin.
