PRADA: New Digital-Fashion Borders

PRADA obviously sees no frontiers or boundaries when it comes to the internet and that is exactly why we love them!

The Italian fashion house is launching their Made-to-Order service on the Prada.com website that will provide users and brand enthusiasts with the opportunity to use the service on footwear, customisable eyewear and small leather goods.

Offering an interactive experience for both male and female clientele, everyone will be able to personalise and recreate their own PRADA look. Choosing from a dedicated on-line section that will feature the 'Lettering Project' for leather goods, the Spring Summer 2011 lace-ups that are the 'it' shoes for this season & the Prada Private eyewear, Prada will give you design control.

By expanding its web presence, Prada is reaffirming its ongoing interest in researching the latest and most forward-looking communications strategies. And they are certainly paying off!

The Made-to-Order service will be available on-line end of April!

Get Customising!

Who knew the humble pair of glasses could be so multifaceted? First the slew of designer 3D specs infiltrated the market with Gucci's sleek offering spear-heading a new take on traditional eye-wear.

Now Prada has followed suit with an innovative approach when it comes to designing glasses. Prada Private is a new line introduced whereby personalisation has been taken one step further. Prospective purchasers of these sophisticated styles are given the opportunity to select from a variety of letters, numbers and symbols in order to transform their new glasses. Using a brand-new patented engineering mechanism, the arms of the glasses can be removed and personalised by clipping in desired inserts.

The line offers a chic colour choice of either black, white or tortoiseshell and shall be launched internationally in Prada Boutiques on December 2nd.

"Prada Milano, made in......."

Prada, one of Italy's largest fashion houses, recently announced that its legendary "made in Milan" labels will henceforth be more geographically correct to the inspiration behind each particular garment.

A special Dova denim jeans collection is now "Made in Japan" while "Made in Peru" features beautiful woollen pieces, spun in the time-honoured tradition from South-American alpulca wool. These new tags accrediting the inspiration and ethnic backgrounds of several Prada pieces are the brain child of creative director Miuccia Prada. Directing the company since 1978, Miuccia has headed many new initiatives and Prada has clearly benefited from her ideas. In today's world, where everything is either fair-trade, organic or else ignored, Prada is keeping up with the Joneses by giving their brand an ethnically accredited tag. Miuccia stated that it's "taking away the hypocrisy.... mine is an original statement and it comes from a personal appreciation of originality".

Fair-trade Prada? Yes please.

Prada Spring/Summer 2011

With bold colours and clean lines, Miuccia Prada’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection is, as she describes in her own words; “Simplicity Regained”.

With block silhouettes featuring simply-cut pullover V-neck shirts in Cotton worn over ample Bermuda style shorts; the looks are reminiscent to almost that of hospital garb. Meanwhile tailored jackets,  worn over skinny trousers and striped boat-neck knits teamed with trousers of a considerably looser fit, also add to the collection.

Double denim appears to be a key fixture for S/S 2011, while blue is unquestionably the colour of choice for Prada this season:
