AHILYA luxury scarves

AHILYA, the luxury cashmere scarf brand, collaborate with two artists every season. Most recently, they have joined forces with the French artist Claire Fanjul, to create the “Spring Tondo”. Claire has built her portfolio with an array of engravings and India Ink work; today Le Figaro has cited her as one of “the new names in drawing”.

Manuela Moollan sourced Claire and asked her to create a design for AHILYA which would complement the intricate and complex techniques used to make the scarves. Intrigued by the world of fashion and textile design, the collaboration with AHILYA is a first time experience.

Entirely hand spun and hand woven in Kashmir and silk screen printed in England, the end result is a design of modern luxury. Using traditions which support the environment, AHILYA won the Ethical Fashion Forum’s Innovation Award in 2010. Emma Hart's TO DO installation

British artist Emma Hart, supported by Fujifilm, will launch her first solo exhibition “TO DO” at Matt’s Gallery in London this month. The interactive exhibition includes sculptural video installations using 30 Fujifilm cameras, aimed to demonstrate how the camera can go far beyond its recording purposes and influence the dynamics of an event. The audience are encouraged to interact with the installations, allowing them to experiment both in front of and behind the lens all the while creating their own dialogue. Hart’s decision to use Fujifilm came from the camera’s ability to create slideshows, a function that many cameras today don’t have.

Katie Teesdale, PR Manager of Fujifilm UK says, “It’s been exciting to be part of the process, and observe how Emma’s extraordinary talent and vision has worked with the technical capabilities of the various cameras and has now created a fascinating body of work”.

The exhibition is now open and will run until 20 November 2011. There will also be a publication accompanying the exhibition, free to all gallery visitors.

Diesel and Adidas Collaboration; Part 2

Diesel has teamed up with Adidas Originals for a second time and redesigned six classic Adidas styles, naming it Colliding Worlds Part II. Taking its inspiration from the Diesel apparel collection ranging from workwear, over-treated materials mixed up with trekking inspirations up to technical nylons- while the usage of rivets, canvas, waxed leather, incorporated within the six most classic adidas sneaker styles suggest a real laboratory of experiments.

Stefano Rosso says: "It is always exciting to work with an iconic lifestyle brand such as adidas Originals. This capsule collection is an evolution of the previous one, but with even more elements that recall the two brands true DNA. I believe we were really able to take the product to the next level and create something unique for our brand lovers!"

THE FORUM, inspired by London punk has a total black look with studs and check details resembling a bit of Camden.

Diesel Island takes over Field Day Festival

Diesel Island joined forces with Field Day radio to LIVE stream interviews with all artists throughout the day. The radio station was located within The Diesel Island Oasis a hobo-esque festival inspired are in the hub of Field Day's VIP section.

The idea of luxury streetwear is one that's been offered by many fashion connoisseurs in current seasons each giving their own interpretation of the 'movement'; but if we had to choose one designer that masterfully tackles the streets in both essence and attitude it would be Marc Newson.

The Sydney born designer continues his successful collaboration with G-Star RAW for the 8th year in a row creating a collection for Autmn/Winter 2011/12 that continues to explore the application of industrial design techniques to simplify both construction and line of a garment.

Even though the fashion aesthetic of luxury streetwear deals with big & bold but still extremely basic designs Newson introduced features such as single-piece arms, hidden pockets and minimal seams incorporating them with strong primary colours and sleek cuts that add a playfully tailored edge to the G-Star RAW by Marc Newson collection.

Wyld Wednesdays at W Hotel with Erol Sabadosh

Popstar Ke$ha, rock offspring Kelly Osbourne, fashion models, channel 4’s ‘Dirty Sexy Things’ cast (BB and Charlotte we love you) and an array of fashionistas, models, editors, fashion enthusiasts and flamboyantly dressed party heavy hitters were the crowd the 7thMan team came across when we attended one of the now legendary Erol Sabadosh parties at the impeccably glam Wyld Bar of the world renowned and notorious W Hotel in London this past week.

The fusion of fashion and music is one that every artist and designer has to incorporate in their trade as the extraordinary power of both art forms has been so multi-faceted that the combination of the two nowadays acts as a gateway to superfluous positive reception and success.

With Dj Natt Weller (yes that is Paul Weller’s son) hitting the decks first we had time to enjoy an intimate chat with creator and DJ (and now 7thMan friend) Erol Sabadosh, getting all the goss for what seems to be probably one of the most exciting, exclusive and if you ask me very well thought of nights in London Town, over a very pink, very frothy drink that the bartender calls ‘The W Explosion’!

Now do tell me the truth, what really urged you to start putting on parties like the one at W?

For me it's all about establishing a hub for people at the forefront of what's going on creatively in fashion and music to come together and intermix. I love bringing people together, introducing people and also meeting new people in the process. For me a party is made up of the guests who attend, and I always make sure that my crowds are carefully selected. As a DJ and producer myself I also like to place emphasis on good music and real DJs.

Why did you choose the W Hotel and the Wyld Bar to host this amazing night?

It's an internationally renowned venue with a central location in London, making it possible for us to bring together all the creativity from East London and fuse it with West London decadence to create an eclectic mix of wild spectacle and luxury, subculture and pop culture. I started Wyld Wednesdays where the ultimate goal was to cultivate a new collective in the heart of London based around young creatives and established talent.

How vital is the combination of fashion and music for the Erol Sabadosh nights?

Both are highly creative industries that have the potential to support each other, for instance what PPQ do with their 1-2-3-4 festival and what Ponystep, for which I am currently a resident, have been doing with Kitsuné. You see a lot of collaboration these days between the two and that's something that I've kept in mind in terms of the events that I like to produce and get involved with. For Wyld Wednesdays we've already had support from Dazed Digital and moving forward I'd like to bring in more brands and publications, such as 7th Man. Fashion is a big part of my world, having DJ'd or produced catwalk soundtracks for labels ranging from Vivienne Westwood to Adidas, and I'm always keeping an eye out for new talent to collaborate with. Given the opportunity I'd really like to work with designers like Damir Doma, JW Anderson and Christopher Shannon and I'd be eager to DJ for Alexander Wang, he always has great parties! Dancing on stage alongside himself, Agyness Deyn and M.I.A. at his Spring/Summer '11 after-party was definitely the highlight of that New York fashion week for me!

If you could pick one celebrity or fashion icon to attend one of your now legendary parties, who would it be?

We've already had everyone from Kate Moss to Jarvis Cocker step through the doors of Wyld, I suppose the obvious choice would be Lady Gaga, and she certainly represents a mainstream fusion of music and fashion, but I'd love to have Courtney Love at one of my parties as I think it would definitely make for a wild night. I like the fact that she gets gifted all these stunning dresses from people like Marc Jacobs and then has the balls to just cut them up and make them her own, it's funny to me and I think she knowingly exemplifies the ironies of modern celebrity status. In my opinion celebrity culture has grown too far out of hand, especially with the extreme proliferation of reality television and disposable entertainment, and I think we need to shift our focus back onto real talent and artistic expression. It frustrates me to see celebrities who can't DJ trying to do so, especially if their fame comes from something other than raw talent in the first place. As somebody who's studied music, played instruments from a young age and taken the time to learn as much as I can about what I do, I take pride in my skills but I always strive to improve and challenge myself and to put these skills to good use.

Now we would like you to share a bit of your wisdom and pass on to the 7th Man readers your top3 songs that are undoubtedly the tunes that ‘can bring the house down’?

It depends where I'm playing, if I'm doing a big warehouse or festival gig I'll drop something like Raven by Proxy to really get people going, and at parties I like to mix things up so I'll throw in a track like Ante Up by MOP to get things extra lively. Picking a good end-of-the-night song is a must too, I really love spinning a guaranteed sing-along tune such as Roxanne or Like A Prayer and seeing the crowd cheer. People also seem to be really enjoying my recent remixes which are all available to download for free on my Soundcloud page, the response to them has been quite overwhelming in a short space of time, which makes me very excited about what's coming up!

Our September issue is officially on the tracks going full speed.

This week you may have spotted us jumping in and out of taxis throughout London, casually resting phone in one hand and a starbucks in the other... Or, more realistically - avoiding traffic/reading emails as we impatiently cross the road. Either way you look at it, we have been planning, coordinating and piecing together our 4th issue. Its been an exciting week and the issue is set to be our best yet.

Yesterday saw our editor-in-chief, Dean Hau, celebrate his birthday! Today, in Notting Hill the teams out in full force shooting for the new issue. Although, admittedly not the most exciting photo, here is a low quality shot taken from my blackberry. We think you might recognise the face in front of the camera, any guesses?

Its been a productive and busy week for all of us. And the weekend invites our rejuvenation machines (duvet + ITV2) in preparation for an for an exciting Monday.

This weekend I am off to the country in search of some fresh air and a warm pub. Simple enough. Bringing it straight back to the clothes, I made the assumption I wouldn't get served wearing my fur coat, shoulder pads and bowler hat (am i joking?) in the conservative village of Chedworth. Not exactly wanting to walk in wearing a tweed outfit and wellies. I have been online... aquabyaqua.com have revamped my wardrobe giving me some colour blocking T's. I have been wearing their drop crotch carrot bottoms high waisted (too regularly) tied together with a vintage belt. They have some really cool looks, its worth checking out, especially as they have reasonable price points.

Aside from my weekend away, I am going to be waiting like a groupie that needs to be watched carefully by security, The menswear store opens 1st July on Beak street (just off carnaby street). My overdraft is ready.

Along with pants and socks, knitwear is definitely one of the most worn items by all of us at 7th MAN. The high street provides an array of standard, and somewhat predictable knitwear options that everyone has become very used to.

We've always deemed it important to have a luxurious, indulgent jumper to save us carrying the duvet to work. Out of the office, a stylish knitwear alternative will never go a miss, however admittedly, it is hard to find. That bright red but comfortable hand knitted jumper we got for christmas is great for watching TV, but embarrassing to answer the door in. Happily, but somewhat overdue, we have put it safely to the bottom of our wardrobe as we've found a far better alternative.

AM Golhar knitwear keeps it masculine with somber hues and chunky styles. We are certain that any man can look stylish all year around with these flattering designs. Although it's cliché, the pieces do look great dressed up or down, and hold their own in any context. Consider the christmas jumper worn ironically and only once a year. BURBERRY CELEBRATES IN CHINA WITH GLOBAL DIGITAL EVENT LIVE FROM BEIJING

The event, which took place earlier this week on a 2000sqm sound stage at the Beijing Television Centre granded the audience and viewers with a spectacle that was truly breathtaking.

With a progressive technological approach, Burberry created an immense brand experience celebrating all things British and Burberry. The show that also celebrated the launch of the new 12,500 square foot flagship store in Beijing, took viewers through a magical choreographed four season weather journey that included life-size holograms of models and models transforming into snow.

7thMan Exclusive Interview:Our favourite electro-pop band Cut Copy are back with a new album!

Australian electro-pop sensation Cut Copy are back this month with their third studio album Zonoscope. Now a four piece, with the addition of bassist Ben Browning, the band hope to follow up the success of their last album In Ghost and Colours and, judging by the recent reception of the new release, they have little to worry about. More of a dance record than previous albums, Zonoscope sees the band tone down on the rock/indie vibes and focus more on the electronic, with more uplifting synths, layers and percussion. We caught up with Cut Copy to find out a little bit more about the new release.

After the success of In Ghost Colours did you feel any added pressure in writing the new album?

No not really. We were happy with the result of In Ghost Colours and felt it was heading in an exciting direction. So if anything we were really eager to get back to recording and see where things went next. For us recording is always a most exciting process, so we dont think about pressure or expectations, it’s just about exploring different creative avenues.

You have a new member, how has having Ben in Cut Copy affected the creative process?

He comes from a background of classic pop music and has a real handle on musical theory and technique, whereas the rest of us are all self taught. So he’s definitely come in from a different angle. I think it’s been interesting having him play and work with us on the new record. He always seems to bring something unexpected to all our recordings and is super proficient on various instruments.

Who were your influences in writing for ‘Zonoscope’?

I was listening to a lot of Talking Heads, Grace Jones, Konk and late seventies music that was influenced by african music while working on the original demos for the record. I think the emphasis on rhythm was really influential. I also listened to a lot of other stuff; 90’s manchester stuff, chicago house, and a lot of classic pop like the rolling stones, roxy music etc. As always our records seem to be a product of a pretty diverse range of sounds.

Much of your music is very complex in terms of layering and the range of sounds you use, do you find it easy to translate this into your live performances?

It’s always been a challenge, because we never think too much about how we’ll play songs live when we’re writing them. I feel like worrying about that will restrict the creative process when we’re writing. But we’ve added a lot of instrumentation in performing songs from this record, and a percussionist. We’ve also got a bunch of new analog synths to reproduce the sounds of zonoscope. It feels like our instrumentation evolves for each record.

You released a making of video providing a very insightful look into your writing process how did this come about.

The guys who directed the doco are very good friends of ours and in fact have both been our housemates at various times. But they are also incredibly talented film and video-makers. So it made complete sense. There was nobody we’d feel more comfortable in the studio with than those guys. And the end result is probably the most accurate depiction of life in the studio with us, and just us as friends. They did a great job!

You’ve gone back to self producing in this album what made you decide to do this?

I’ve always felt like writing was as much involved in production as it is in writing melodies. Dance music and even a lot of the more guitar based music I like (eg: my bloody valentine) is so rooted in production, I think it’s been natural for me to produce a large part of each of our records. i think this time we just made it official and tried to take on as much of the production and recording as possible. We’ve learned so much from the other records we’ve made with other people that we felt completely comfortable doing it that way.

The new video for ‘Need You Now’ looks like it was very fun to make did you enjoy working with director Keith Schofield?

Yeah - he’s amazing. He’s been one of our favorite directors for a long time and it was just a matter of time before we could work together. We let him have pretty much free reign over the clip and the results were fantastic. I think it’s possibly our favorite Cut Copy clip.

7thMan Must- Have for the Summer : 'Black Eyewear'

The sun is shining in London, the weather is sweet..Are you sure you are rocking the right pair of sunnies?Eager to buy a pair of sunglasses that all the big fashion houses are imitating?

I guess having the great jazz musician Count Bassie sit beside you at a piano and start jamming with you creates an instant gratification that everything that you've been doing so far lead up to this particular moment.

For Robert Roope, creator of the 'Black Eyewear' this was probably the best night of his life, a night that catapulted him into a series of events that brought to life this collection of brilliantly crafted sunglasses. The 'Black Eyewear' range is named after several jazz musicians as the effect of the jazz era and its aesthetic is what prompted Roope in creating a collection that has soul and passion running through them; that can easily be perceived as vintage and retro while still remaining contemporary and with an edge.

“It was my way of paying tribute to the music that has given me so much joy over the years,” says Roope.

The iconic frames appeared in movies like 'Quantum of Solace' and icons like Johnny Depp credit Roope as probably the best eyewear designer in the business so it looks like Robert Roope only had to look to the past to create an amazing future!

Nancy Spero

The Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens is playing host to the first major presentation of Nancy Spero’s work since her death in 2009. Her work is fascinating partly for its breadth of identities and characters: from the Celtic goddess of fertility with legs akimbo, to 50s pin-ups, to Medusa, to Artemis Artaud, the lunatic/nihilist/misogynist, a seemingly incongruous cast of oddities are brought together. It might seem strange that Spero, the strident feminist and anti-war activist, could champion such an anti-hero as Artaud, but this is only to testament her great artistic intuition; her ability to mute the intellectual for the human in creating great art. It is this aspect that comes across most strongly in the Serpentine exhibition, for although Spero was a critical and passionate political commentator, her work communicates on many other levels, be it immediately visual, emotional or humorous. The paradigmatic shift from traditional feminism has endangered many overtly feminist artists: it is proof of Spero’s art that her work remains as vital and entertaining today as it ever has been. Robert Geller, the New York based menswear designer who is known for his well executed tailored pieces that are full of swagger, has branched out to sunglasses.

Marc Jacobs - The raunchy fashion house?

What is really going on at Marc Jacobs? We've been hearing all sorts lately and even though we are finding it hard to believe most of them, more and more people are coming forward with bizzarre stories.It looks like some employees or former employees are not really happy with CEO Robert Duffy.

A former CFO of Marc Jacobs International is allegedly suing the company, Robert Duffy and LVMH (not Marc Jacobs himself) because as he claims the CEO is using company money to pay off personal expenses, makes employees watch gay pornography and also he comprised a book where all employees were asked to be photographed in awkward sexual positions (according to the NY Post). This all sounds very peculiar!

On top of that an ex- intern hijacked the MJ twitter account claiming that Robert Duffy 'is a tyrant' and wouldn't advise anyone to apply to work for him.

Is there the slightest bit of truth in these allegations or is it just bitterness?

Type in Crystal Stilts on google and you’ll see a lot of whacky phrases describing their sound: “nugaze,” “dream-pop,” “fuzz-beat.” Try and ignore these and put on Through The Floor, the first single of the new album, In Love With Oblivion.

Crystal Stilts have cleverly co-opted the melodic charm of early rock and roll and slapped an airy cacophony of sound on top. Singer, Brad Hargett, adds to the soup with a tuneful drone reminiscent of Ian Curtis. It’s an interesting mix that really works. Their second LP is released by Slumberland on 12th April. We feel that we are part of a denim era, where denim is part of our lifestyle, integrated in every outfit; we adjust it with suits, we wear them to work, designers and brands are even extending to their own ranges & denim accessories; but what is it about denim that is so fascinating?7thMan Magazine sits down for a very exclusive interview with the Guardians of the Standard or GOTS, the creative collective behind Natural Selection Denim, the denim brand created in 2009, to get a few straight answers!

Q: How did you first fall in love with denim? Is it your love for denim that created Natural Selection?

Denim or a pair of jeans is now a staple piece of clothing in every modern man's wardrobe. It’s the flexibility & durability of the fabric that I truly appreciate. I have been fortunate enough to travel – I started picking up on the underground denim culture growing out of Japan in the early '90s. I have also taken inspiration from heritage British work wear especially for this season, old railroad uniforms specifically. How the brand started is a long story… a journey & sequence of events. Extending my knowledge in the world of denim; growing knowledge in sales, distribution & meeting entrepreneur John Park we were able to bring NS Denim to life.

Q: What is the core value/philosophy behind the Natural Selection denim line?

We wanted a name that suggested 2 things:

- The idea of the natural Evolution of denim – NS Denim captures fabric as it ages in a unique way. From our raw fabrics, all the way through the journey, to the most unique of vintage washes.

- We also like encouraging the notion of evolutionary competition & the strongest will survive. We are able to better communicate the quality of our premium product through this notion.

Q: These past few years we’ve been seeing this massive re-emergence of high-quality denim brands. What sets you apart from all the others?

We believe in using the finest of fabric & focusing on attention to detail in design. We are seeking new ways to be original with our fabrics all the way from application to developing our own laundry techniques for washing. Q: What elements would you say comprise the perfect pair of jeans?

Q: What has been the inspiration for the S/S 2011 collection?

Natural Selection Denim’s SS11 collection re-introduces the lightness and handle of Italian mills to the mix. Of note, there is “STRIPPED”, torn, damaged and inspired by rock and roll as well as “PIRATE”, a masterpiece of modern laundry technique to imitate the sun-bleach and sand from wading in the foamy surf on a beach.

It exudes a relaxed casual attitude, with implication of honest sweat balanced with the deliberate hints of referencing from the military and workwear wardrobe

Q: Even though the brand is fairly new, there is a feeling of nostalgia and heritage in your design aesthetic. How did that come about?

When creating the brand and designing the aesthetics of the branding it was important that we wanted to give an established look & feel. Our reasons for doing a denim brand were to celebrate our love of denim. To celebrate that ‘denim’ as a group has got such a vast wealth of historical elements, stories, references. We nod back to the golden period of denim making – take learning’s & reinterpret.

Q: Who do you have in mind when designing? Is it personal or do you take trends under consideration?

We have lots of aspects in mind when designing. We keep a close eye on maintaining our Brand values. We respect our target consumer - ultimately who we're creating for. Also we try to remain innovative; we take reference from our surrounding not just denim & fashion. Nature, Landscapes, Arts: Film, Music, Science, the list is endless.

Q: Do you have a signature denim design yet? Or maybe a particular product that shoppers have shown an immense liking to, from your line?

The Smith is a style name that is our name given to generic details that make up a NS jean. The Smith’s signature details are it’s labels, branding, buttons & rivets.

We then move onto our Fabric fit & wash that makes it unique to the season. Having now rolled out into a full collection, we are also being recognized for our shirt & jacket detailing.

Q: What is next for NS Denim?

We're in the process of expanding Global distribution – targeting Europe, the US & Asia. We hope to see Global growth through specialist stores. We will also be increasing the offering on the upper half collection.

Hedi Slimane : Anthology of a Decade

A new photography book honouring the photography work of the exemplary designer turned photographer, Hedi Slimane, is released on the 30th of Aprl by JRP Ringier publishing.

Drawing on photographs taken throughout the past decade, this volume records Slimane’s early years in the fashion industry, before, during and after his tenures at Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior. It was during this decade that Slimane brought to men’s fashion an androgynous, rock verve that influenced couture worldwide. Alexander Wang launches Menswear collection

New York based designer Alexander Wang, after a successful launch of his first stand alone store and his continuous evolvement of the Alexander Wang empire,is now moving into menswear.

Reported literally hours ago on Style, the designer who took the fashion world by storm with his minimalist sportswear approach to design, will launch the Alexander Wang Menswear collection for Fall 2011 soon. The capsule collection will pick up elements from his previous endeavours with 'T' and 'Alexander Wang' and will follow the same style & aesthetic of chic low-key utilitarian basics that are designed with excellent quality with Wang's contemporary take on the classics.

We are already practically drooling over it, the collection will be available at Dover Street Market come next season!

Yohji Yamamoto 'This is My Dream'

This was long overdue!

A documentary that will present the story and work of Yohji Yamamoto entitled 'This is MY Dream' will be released sometime this Spring.

Directed by Theo Stanley and from what we have seen so far narrated from Yohji Yamamoto himself, the documentary embodies the essence of the same dark approach of Yamamoto as a designer, which makes the film so much more mysterious and interesting.

7thMan exclusive: First images from 'Forgotten Future' a/w 2011 collection

This past January, 7thMan was one of the first magazines to introduce to you who we thought would be taking over the contemporary menswear arena, Forgotten Future. The brand designed by Richard Dawson(who could honestly be one of the loveliest designers we ever met) once again invited 7thMan to preview their autumn/winter 2011 collection this past week and all we have to say is 'We told you so'!

Part influenced by the work of photographer Perry Ogden and partly still exploring the post war vibes precedented in the s/s'11 collection, the a/w'11 collection is entitled 'Pony Youth'. Through a cohesive presentation of must-have wardrobe staples, that includes tailoring with a sportswear edge and an eclectic mix of pattern and texture, 'Pony Youth' incorporates a feeling of nostalgia that is evidently presented through Dawson's love of oversized vintage silhouettes and excellent quality that easily can challenge the notion of disposable fashion.

Two Wounded Birds

Two Wounded Birds are THE band for this summer. Their sound blends the disparate elements of the broad rock and roll spectrum of the 1950s and 60s; Link Wray's guitar, Brian Wilson's melodies, Phil Spector's production, they're all successfully evoked by Two Wounded Birds. After just finishing a tour with The Drums, expect big things from this band in the very near future. French fashion label A.P.C has been known for their simplistic elegance and basic luxury and for a second season the ethical and eco-friendly company are introducing their collection of quilts made from wool, tweed, curduroy and cotton.

In this video, creative director Jean Touitou presents the design and production process of their quilt collection that includes 7 pieces and is a collaborative effort with friend and fashion designer Jessica Ogden.

Each quilt design is limited to 30 pieces and are available to buy today 24th of March on the A.P.C website.

Formichetti paid 20 thousand dollars for Zombie Boy

As weird as it may sound, it is actually true. The man behind the Haus of Gaga, Lady Gaga, UNIQLO, Vogue Homme Japan and now MUGLER first spotted the tattoo enthusiast on facebook and tracked him down through a tattooist friend.

In a very exclusive interview, the creative director and model gave recently, explained how the model couldn't fly to France to attend the MUGLER shows because he didn't have a passport and the reason for that? Genest was homeless and owing around 20 thousand dollars in fines to the state, for sleeping on the streets.

Enamoured by his story, Nicola Formichetti flew to Canada to meet with Rick Genest aka Zombie boy and immediately shot the autumn/winter 2011 MUGLER campaign with him and photographer Mariano Vivanco, he even changed some of the a/w'11 outfits to suit a more gothic Genest.

Hedi Slimane on those DIOR rumours

The Guardian, the English newspaper run a story yesterday claiming that former DIOR HOMME creative director, Hedi Slimane, would not take the creative post at DIOR even if he was offered the spot because such a job at a luxury house is very demanding and can make anyone miserable.

Now Slimane's PR is fighting back with claims that:

"The article in The Guardian is obviously, and certainly deliberately, misleading...The interview was clearly done one day before the event [Galliano's arrest] in Paris and not after. It is therefore unrelated, and sadly presumptuous. The Guardian wanted obviously to associate, juxtapose the two, after the Dior events, by postponing the article."

Looks like Galliano's arrest is still top news in the fashion world!

Lot78, the London luxury outerwear company that is manufactured with very high-standards in the Veneto region of Italy will be launching their very own concept pop up space at Selfridges this April.

The brand that is known for their impossibly chic contemporary take on the classic leather jacket, created a clean and minimal space- in London's most fashion forward multi-brand shop-that will house the latest collection from the brand for Spring Summer 2011. Showcasing 7 new styles of leather jackets with a particular focus on quilted styles- the ‘Jamie ‘ and new collar shapes-the ‘Liam’, with its flattering zip front funnel neck, a new range of lux nylon jackets, the brand will also inttroduce their first pair of chinos for guys.

The project entitled 'Lot78 is...Bored', will give the chance to customers and brand enthusiasts to interact and be actively involved with the brand's creative process. This intentional play on words relates to a simple grey blank board which the general public can customize. The boards will appear across London for an exchange of thoughts, opinions and general fun to be exhibited within the pop up shop. How amazing is that?

NIKE X Liberty London sneaker collection

We are always a bit weary when we hear that different designers and brands are going to collaborate because sometimes the result is not exceptional.The designer wants to be creative, the brand wants to sell more so they're playing it safe, so it must be a bit daunting to actually await for the end result of such a collaboration.

Fortunately this is not the case with NIKE and Liberty London. The sportswear brand collaborated with probably one of the oldest stores in London to create a 12 piece capsule collection that incorporates the Liberty London trademark prints onto 4 of the most popular NIKE trainers including the Air Force 1 and the Dunk Hi.

The 12 piece trainer capsule collection Nike x Liberty London, will be available at Liberty from the 1st of April and 10 pieces will go to all other stores and globally from 1st of May as 2 of them will be exclusively for Liberty's.

Sibling Collection now on video

During London Fashion week we introduced on 7thMan the wonderfully crafted pieces from Sibling's a/w'11 collection intriguingly entitled 'Darn the Boozer'.

The collection that consisted of beautiful knitwear in edgy designs was storytelling a pub-crawl that if you live or happen to breathe East London, you probably boogie-d or had a drink at these particular 'monuments'.

Now the London based designers of Sibling created a short video featuring their a/w'11 creations, that was shot at the George & Dragon and styled by Matthew Josephs.

This time the Comme des Garcons and Dover Street Market creative director managed to surprise the fashion industry by working with comic strip creator of 'The Simpsons', Matt Groening.

The collaboration which was first showed during Paris Fashion Week at the CDG showroom, is made-up of four t-shirts that feature the iconic PLAY heart with a comic strip illustration of a series entitled 'Binky and Sheba meet Rei'.

Matthew Miller's Modern Man for A/W'2011

Blurring the lines of tradition and practicality, RCA alumni Matthew Miller presented his autumn/winter 2011 collection both in Paris at the BFC's 'London Show Rooms' but also at London Fashion Week as part of Fashion East's Men day presentation.

The 2010/2011 McArthurGlen Spirit of Fashion Award recipient, introduced his own interpretation of masculinity through a collection that was inspired by German artist Joseph Beuys and travel in the twenty-first century. Still exploring the technological vs traditional impact of menswear design, Miller used traditional techniques that were complemented by the use of hi-tech and performance fabrics.

The Matthew Miller a/w'11 man prefers practical and functional clothing with an insertion of bright colour. Traditional duffel coats in melange wool get a re-vamp in vibrant blue and bold yellow with their toggles replaced with M33 carabiners, jersey t-shirts with military accents are insulated and the rope accessories are definitely innovative.

The future certainly looks very bright for Matthew!

7thMAN Designer to watch: Frater Clothing s/s'11

New menswear brand Frater designed by 21 year old Michael Brown manages to combine the best of both worlds, excellent quality and affordable price point. The collection is made up of printed tees, hooded short-sleeve jumpers, denim shirts and functional jackets that are definitely wearable, effortlessly cool and adaptable.

What more could a guy want ?

To introduce his Spring/Summer 2011 collection Brown worked with Slow Motion who shot a film set to a soundtrack of the LA band Ritualz.The film sees each piece in the line captured on models moving through the air in slow motion - made possible by the Redlake camera which shoots at 8,000 frames per second.

Through using this new technology, Frater hopes to bring consumers a new way of viewing the collection and its intricacies - creating a more intimate way for the viewer to connect with the collection.

The Givenchy a/w'11 collections for both menswear and womenswear were probably the most stunning and seducing-ly innovate yet wearable collections from all the offerings that we've seen on the catwalk this show season!

The sexy ,up-tight, arrogant aesthetic transferred brilliantly through to the accessories with the chav-tastic all-over dog print taking center-stage and a fur covered backpack in both brown and black can lure anyone to the dark side!

Now the only question left to ask is' Will he take the reigns at DIOR ?'

If you have been a follower of 7thMan then you probably know by now that we love our jeans.They are comfortable, functional and we can wear them anywhere,so we wouldn't pass off the very exclusive opportunity when we got an e-mail asking us to interview the amazing team behind denim phenomenon Raleigh Denim.

Creating jeans with integrity and true craftsmanship and having only just recently launched in the UK we had a Q&A with the founders Sarah and Victor Lytvinenko and got some very frank answers from the husband and wife design duo!

You were recently in the UK to launch RALEIGH. Did you enjoy London? What did you guys do?

V: Yes! We had a great time. It was a lot of business meetings, but we did get the chance to go to the Tate Modern to see the sunflower exhibit by Ai Weiwei. We got to drink a proper English Ale and got to eat some great Indian food near Bricklane. It seemed to go by way too fast and I was feeling a bit under the weather for the entire trip. We can’t wait to come back and spend some more time in the city.

Have you seen any famous Brits wearing your jeans?

S: I have not seen any famous Brits wearing our jeans yet, but The National wore our jeans at their sold out show at Brixton Academy in London in January.

Having started your company in your own house, do you think it is difficult for a new company to break the industry?

It's difficult for anyone to really break in to any industry. I think a person or business with tremendous passion and tremendous persistence can do about anything they put their minds to.

Do you remember the first pair of jeans you ever produced? How did you feel?

Yes we do. It felt great, but there is a huge difference between the first pair of jeans we made and the first pair we were proud of. We went through hundreds of pattern changes and samples before we had anything close to the fit and styling of the first jeans that we would put our names on.

There is an abundant source of denim within the high-street and designer circuit. What makes Raleigh denim stand out from all the others?

For us, making jeans is about quality, craftsmanship, fit, and style.

We make our own jeans, by hand, in our own shop in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. This way we can make our jeans our way, and so we could be present during that process, able to respond, improve, correct, oversee as much as possible. We take the building of our jeans quite seriously, and believe that how things are made is as important as the thing that's made. We're accessible and transparent; you can walk in and see things from start to finish in our workshop.

What was the real reason you started making jeans?

V: The reason that we started making jeans is that I could not find jeans that fit the way I liked them to. We built our patterns ourselves, from scratch. It took a while to get it perferct, but allowed us to really develop our tailored fits.

What about your raw materials?You are very unconventional and original in the way you source denim...

Almost all of the denim we use comes from the Cone Mills White Oak plant, about 70 miles away, in Greensboro North Carolina. They have been making denim in that building since 1905 and are by far the best mill in the US. They have the only working original shuttle looms in the United States. We develop new styles of denim with Cone that they make exclusively for Raleigh. Almost all of the rest of our raw materials for the jeans come from within 200 miles of our shop.

Building with this true American vintage style denim and a few choice vintage machines (including a couple Union Special 43200G leg hemmers), we take the heritage building blocks and create something new, with our updated fits and stitching details.

Your shop ‘The Curatory” doesn’t feature only your own brand but many others including Lanston and St.James. Why did you decide to do that?

The Curatory was created for several reasons. We needed a place where people could come to see and feel balance of the making of our garments with an elegant retail experience. Over the past few years we have come across other designers and brands with similar styles and ideals that are not available in North Carolina, and that compliment what we are making ourselves quite well. It's fun to be able to bring them in and showcase them in our shop.

Do you design according to inspiration and personal preference or are you very much commercially aware of what is happening at the moment?

We certainly keep an eye on the market, but we usually end up just following our guts and making what we want to see in the market.

Would you say that you can identify your typical customer?

People who wear Raleigh are aware of details, respect craftsmanship, seek quality, think long-term, and make the jeans their own as they wear them.

Which style/wash of your denim collection literally flies off the shelf? and is there a “must-have” pair of jeans for Spring/Summer 2011?

Our “Original” jean is based on the first style we were really proud of. We have updated it with triple needle fell seams and tighter stitching details all around. It has an interesting shade of 12.5oz denim with a tinted weft allowing the denim to break in a little greener than normal indigo. These are one of our favourites and probably the best selling jean we make.

You have kind of a strong relationship with mega brand-store Barneys. How did that come about?

Ha! It is kind of a crazy story.

Sarah and I had a small workshop in Raleigh and we were making custom jeans for people. Through a friend of a friend, we got a meeting with the buyer and drove up to New York in my dad’s minivan and showed them the four styles we had out of my soccer bag. It was late in the buying season for them and in the middle of the recession, but they gave us a try in two stores. Sarah and I made every pair in our little shop with no heat through the winter and sent them off. The jeans sold well and they ordered for a few more stores. They have been amazing and their support has allowed us to grow and maintain the integrity of our process and product. We are now in 17 Barneys Co-op stores and will be launching the full men’s ready to wear collection with them for Fall 2011.

Primarily, you are a men’s denim company but I have heard and literally have seen quite a few women purchasing Raleigh jeans. Is it demand that triggered the expansion in womenswear for spring 2011?

Yes, people have been waiting for women's denim from us for a long time. We are so excited that they are finally ready! Women's jeans are quite different from mens, and we needed to take our time developing our fits. In the meantime, lots of women wore the mens line, which is awesome. Now there are so many more options - the full woman’s jeans line will be on the shelves for Fall 2011.

Is it true that you sign each pair of jeans personally after it is handcrafted? One by one? Every pair? By hand?

Yes it's true. Every pair by hand. The jeans are our designs and our craft.

More Fashion Drama,this time for Balmain!

Is this the end of fashion as we know it? What is going on? Following news that D&G might be closing down and John Galliano going to trial,WWD reported that creative director of Balmain Christophe Decarnin was recently hospitalised for depression but did have a say in the latest collection.

Fashion editors and bloggers were left waiting for the designer to take his bow after the Balmain a/w'11 show in Paris but the lights went off immediately when the last model walked off the runway. That very same minute speculations of the designer being in a mental hospital surfaced but not only that,several blogs and websites reported that the creative director no longer works for Balmain and hasn't since January.

Super-chic stylist Melanie Ward with Decarnin's team apparently whipped up the latest collection but everything was kept on the down-low so business wouldn't be affected.Could there be any truth in all of this?

Surely someone must have put a curse on our beloved designers!

D&G NO MORE?

Rumours have been flying around during Milan Fashion week that Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana have decided to merge D&G with their high-end signature line Dolce & Gabbana.

The line which generally appeals to their younger clientele is a pivotal part for the Dolce & Gabbana brand as it brings in almost £330 milion per year but has also infiltrated the commercial market in such a big way with its expansion in accessories, fragrances and other brand extension products.

There is no official statement yet from the Italian fashion house but we certainly do hope that this is not true!

Kim Jones appointed Head of Men Ready-toWear Studio at Louis Vuitton

After Dai Fujiwara stepped down from his role as creative director at Issey Miyake and John Galliano fired from Dior, it looks like more changes will take place within the fashion industry,starting with this one!

This time is Paul Helbers, the Head of Men's Ready-to-Wear studio at Louis Vuitton, who has decided to move on and pursue further projects. Since 1997 Helbers has been working under the artistic direction of Marc Jacobs and together have managed to double the activity and presence of the Louis Vuitton menswear line.

The longstanding fashion house have already appointed British menswear designer Kim Jones as the Head of the Ready-to Wear studio who will start work immediately under the direction of Marc Jacobs.Jones who has been awarded the prestigious Menswear Designer of the Year award by the British Fashion Council twice in 2006 and 2009, was previously creative director at Dunhill and has worked on projects for numerous brands including McQueen, Mulberry and Umbro.

We can't wait to see what Jacobs and Jones come up with next season.We're sure it will be magical!
